Abstract

This presentation investigates the root causes for 100 cable failures sent to our electrical forensic investigation laboratory to see what can be done to reduce them. We will dig past the proximate cause to find the underlying reasons why cables fail. Experience shows that partial discharge is a leading indicator of cable failures so the presentation will also cover causes and effects of partial discharge as well as the methods for online detection.
